The 2020 NBA Draft is reportedly expected to be moved back from June 25 to September due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

According to the report, the NBA is also considering holding the free agency period before the start of the draft versus having it afterward. Some teams believe it would allow for better roster construction to hold free agency before the draft while others like the current schedule.

The Board of Governors will decide on the timing of the two events soon.

The NBA Draft was expected to be pushed back after the Lottery and Combine were postponed indefinitely. The Lottery was previously expected to take place on May 19 while the Combine was set to run May 21-24 in Chicago.

Teams have mentioned the NBA should move back the NBA Draft in order to properly prepare for it and have the opportunity to hold private workouts. Currently, teams can only meet with prospects virtually and are prohibited from viewing live workout video.

Executives around the NBA believe that once the league settles on a date to hold the Combine, the best course of action will be to hold it virtually. With uncertainty surrounding the NBA Draft, the NCAA announced it will be postponing the early-entry deadline for underclassmen.
