National spotlight intensifies for USC with Utah showdown in prime time

USC prepares for increased scrutiny vs Utah (but don’t trust anyone who says this game will prove if USC is for real; USC has already exceeded expectations).

USC football is unbeaten, and yet the Trojans could still be viewed as slightly under the radar in a few ways.

One is that ESPN chose Clemson versus Florida State for the prime-time game this week. Chris Fowler still has not called a single USC game this season. He will have to wait until Nov. 19 at the earliest. That’s when USC faces UCLA in a game which could have very high stakes, depending on the outcome of other games in the next month, including UCLA-Oregon on Oct. 22 in Eugene.

USC is also going under the radar because the big game this week is Alabama at Tennessee. That’s where ESPN College GameDay is headed. Utah losing to UCLA one week before playing USC has undeniably taken some of the juice out of Trojans-Utes.

That said, you’re still going to see a lot of eyeballs glued to this game. It’s a big test for the Trojans, and more people across the country will pay attention to Lincoln Riley’s team after Bama-Tennessee (a day game) ends. USC does have the prime-time spotlight versus Utah.
