NASCAR hires award-winning ESPN producer who led ‘The Last Dance’

NASCAR has made a big splash after hiring longtime award-winning ESPN executive John Dahl to oversee its NASCAR Studios operations.

NASCAR announced on Thursday morning that it has signed John Dahl, a longtime award-winning ESPN executive and producer, as its new Senior Vice President, Content. Dahl currently serves as the Vice President and Executive Producer for Special Projects, Films, and Original Content at ESPN, with a start date of May 1 for NASCAR.

Dahl will “drive the creative vision and oversee the teams responsible for all content generated by NASCAR Studios and NASCAR Digital Media across multiple business areas, including production, programming, and operations.” The 11-time Emmys award-winner was one of the original executive producers on ESPN’s renowned 30 for 30 documentary series.

In 2020, Dahl was a lead executive producer on The Last Dance, ESPN’s most-viewed single documentary project ever. NASCAR has made a significant splash in its content moving forward. Dahl should move the needle while overseeing NASCAR Studios and NASCAR Digital Media, which only gives the sport more momentum after an excellent start to 2024.
