NASCAR ‘close’ to reaching a deal with Mexico City for 2025 season

NASCAR is “close” to reaching a deal with Mexico City for a Cup Series race during the 2025 season.

NASCAR has been pushing to acquire an international Cup Series event for the last few years but hasn’t struck a deal yet. In 2023, NASCAR and Montreal were negotiating a possible Cup Series date for 2024, but it didn’t come together. However, NASCAR might be getting its wish as a deal is reportedly close to completion for 2025.

According to The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi, one industry source believes a deal between NASCAR and Mexico City is “close” for the 2025 season. The last time NASCAR competed in Mexico City was in 2008 with the Xfinity Series. The sport has wanted to hold an international Cup Series points race for the first time since 1958, and Mexico City could be the answer.

If NASCAR can complete a deal with Mexico City, it would represent the fifth road course on the schedule. It would be a positive move for NASCAR’s growth, but according to Bianchi, not everyone in the garage area would be enthusiastic about this move. Either way, NASCAR needs an international points race, and Mexico City could be the closest option.
