Mustafa Johnson’s return a big boost for Colorado

Anyone else excited for Mustafa Johnson’s return on Saturday?

On Saturday, we will finally see the return of big #34, Mustafa Johnson. The two-time All-Pac-12 defensive end was given an NCAA waiver to resume his collegiate career. Johnson took his chances at the NFL in the spring but went undrafted and didn’t sign with the New York Jets despite a workout invitation.

Over his previous three years at Colorado, Johnson recorded 107 tackles and 13 sacks in 21 starts.

“He gives us a veteran presence in the defensive front,” Karl Dorrell said. “He’s excited to play and obviously he feels it was a blessing to get another opportunity to play.”

Johnson will join a Colorado defense that has played significantly better than its offensive counterpart. As the Buffs sit at 1-3, Johnson’s debut against a beatable USC team should provide a much-needed uplift.

“I hope I can be a morale booster in any facet of the game, whether it’s on the field or off the field,” Johnson said. “When I practice and when I play, I come with this intensity that I always play with… I hope I will be able to affect the team in whatever way it needs.”

The Buffaloes’ D-line was shaken up even more this week with DT Lloyd Murray and DE Blayne Toll entering the transfer portal.
