Michigan State women’s basketball will start the season just outside the top 25.

The preseason Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll was released on Tuesday, and Michigan State was nearly included. The Spartans received 16 votes, which put them at No. 31 in the preseason poll.

A total of six teams from the Big Ten were included in the preseason poll: USC (No. 3), UCLA (No. 5), Ohio State (No. 14), Maryland (No. 18), Nebraska (No. 23) and Indiana (No. 25). Iowa and Illinois also received votes in the poll.

Michigan State opens the 2024-25 season on November 5 against Oakland.
