A CBS Sports mock draft heading up to 2022’s event did not mince words when it comes to the Buffalo Bills.
In the projection, the Bills select Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam. He’s a selection that makes sense, and the outlet didn’t overthink the explanation:
Cornerback is a need for the Bills since Levi Wallace left for Pittsburgh.
It’s true. Wallace is gone. But we can go a little deeper than that.
But along with that, top corner Tre White is currently recovering from a knee injury. That might put his status for opening day in the air, and if that’s the case, a need for another cornerback addition is very serious for the Bills.
But Buffalo will have options and Elam is one of them.
Elam totaled 78 tackles, 20 pass breakups, and five interceptions in his career at Florida. Helping him attack the ball is a big 6-foot-2 frame.
One problem potentially in Elam’s game is taking penalties, however, Buffalo probably already discussed that with him. Per reports, the Bills spoke to Elam at the recent combine so he is certainly on their early-offseason radar.
Finally, Elam is praised for his work playing in zone defenses, just like the one the Bills run. A pick that could make sense.
