The Buffalo Bills have a reality to face as the 2023 NFL draft approaches.
General manager Brandon Beane never wants to select a player for need, he often says he wants the best player available regardless of position. With the size of the hole Buffalo has at linebacker after Tremaine Edmunds signed with the Chicago Bears, he might have his hand forced.
CBS Sports walked up to that exact crossroad in one of their latest 2023 mocks and opted to go with need.
Debating between a linebacker and receiver in their projection for the Bills at No. 27, CBS Sports goes with the defender as Iowa’s Jack Campbell is selected.
Campbell’s draft stock is somewhere between the late first and mid-second round. However, Buffalo might not be able to take that risk and hope he’s still there later on for the taking.
Regardless of stock, Campbell does have the makings of a Bill. Head coach Sean McDermott loves his leaders, and Campbell carries those intangibles. He’s also a strong run defender and has the same build as Edmunds.
It won’t be a seamless transition, but Campbell in Buffalo could work out.
Here’s how CBS Sports broke down Campbell to the Bills:
It came down to Campbell or Zay Flowers here for the Bills, but Buffalo likes the depth at receiver more than linebacker on Day 2.
