Miracle in College Station: Josh Heupel and Oklahoma’s comeback win at Texas A&M in 2000

No. 17 Tennessee (4-1, 1-1 SEC) will host Texas A&M (4-2, 2-1 SEC) Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. EDT and CBS will televise the matchup.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel played quarterback at Oklahoma from 1999-2000.

Heupel and the Sooners defeated Texas A&M, 35-31, on Nov. 11, 2000 at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.

Oklahoma trailed, 24-13, entering the fourth quarter. The Sooners scored 22 points in the fourth quarter for the win.

Trailing 31-21 with seven minutes, 43 seconds remaining, Heupel made three straight third-down plays leading to a two-yard touchdown run by Quentin Griffin.

Torrance Marshall then scored on a 41-yard interception return for Oklahoma with seven minutes, 18 seconds remaining in the contest.

Oklahoma prevented the Aggies from scoring on the final drive of the game to secure a win.

The win was Oklahoma’s first at Texas A&M since 1903.

Heupel completed 28-of-42 passing attempts for 263 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also recorded 26 rushing yards on eight attempts.

Oklahoma won the 2000 BCS national championship.
