Mike Vrabel on Titans waiving Josh Reynolds: ‘It just didn’t work out’

Reynolds was waived by the Titans on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Titans released wide receiver Josh Reynolds after the 26-year-old reportedly requested the team do so.

After signing a one-year, $1.75 million deal with the Titans in free agency, it was thought Reynolds could be the team’s No. 2 receiver this season, but he was immediately pushed down the depth chart after the Julio Jones trade.

Reynolds ended up falling even further thanks to the emergences of Chester Rogers, Marcus Johnson and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, leading to his being a healthy scratch multiple times. Wide receivers coach Rob Moore said back in September that special teams work played a role in that.

Reynolds finishes his brief stint with the Titans with just 10 catches for 90 score-less yards in five games played.

Before practice on Wednesday, head coach Mike Vrabel said nothing went wrong, it simply didn’t work out with Reynolds.

“I don’t know that anything went wrong,” Vrabel said. “It just didn’t work out.”

The Titans have yet to replace Reynolds with another receiver on the active roster, but the team does have a few options on the practice squad in wide receivers Mason Kinsey and Dez Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick in particular appears to be coming on strong of late, as he drew praise from Vrabel for his work at practice recently.
