It was an awesome sight to see many of the Pittsburgh Steelers players enter Acrisure Stadium on Saturday night wearing the classic No. 32 jersey of the late Franco Harris. Harris passed away earlier this week and on Saturday the team retired his jersey.
After the Steelers 13-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, head coach Mike Tomlin, back in his No. 32 jersey, was asked whose idea it was to have the players wear the jerseys. Tomlin said it was tight end Pat Freiermuth’s idea to honor Harris. When the Steelers drafted Freiermuth, it was Harris to announced the pick and both men played their college football at Penn State.
If it was Freiermuth’s goal to go out and make Harris proud, he definitely succeeded. Freiermuth was vital in the team’s comeback win. Freiermuth made multiple clutch catches on the team’s game-winning touchdown drive.
The Steelers honored Harris and the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception at halftime.
