Mike Morris updates health status after leaving Michigan football vs. Nebraska game

Good news! #GoBlue

Michigan football got something of a scare late in the 34-3 win over Nebraska.

With the game in-hand, some starters were still in the game, and star edge rusher Mike Morris got rolled up on by fellow defensive end Taylor Upshaw. He writhed on the field, but got up under his own power and ran to the sideline. After the game, he made his way down the tunnel for further evaluation instead of heading straight to the locker room.

Appearing on the Inside Michigan Football radio show by Learfield IMG, Morris told Jon Jansen that his injury is nothing serious.

“I’m feeling great, just a little tweak,” Morris said. “I feel like I’ll be alright. The trainers are working me hard every day. Honestly, I was getting treatment for like four hours this morning. So I’ll be fine. I’m in great hands and it’s all God’s plan.”

The big reason why Morris attributes his injury not being more serious is the work he’s put into his body via the weight room.

He credits strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert for making the training element easy, in terms of knowing what the assignment is, which has helped him and his teammates be in a solid situation when it comes to taking care of themselves. Because of that, as well as the training staff, Morris feels like he’ll be back faster than ever.

“I feel like most of it’s just priorities,” Morris said. “I’m usually down in the training room as often as I am now. So I have to make that a priority, probably over a lot of different things, like film, or whatever. So it’s just all about your priorities at the moment.

“Early in the year watching a lot more film, trying to break down and get more comfortable with the position that I’m in. And then weight room-wise, Coach Herb does a great job with it. I don’t have to worry about the weight room stuff. He just sets it so far and plainly, so we just don’t have to worry about (anything) — show up and work. Work hard.”

While it’s certainly a priority for Morris to return to action this weekend when Michigan hosts Illinois for senior day, it’s likely more important that he be available for the regular season finale, the big showdown against rival Ohio State in Columbus.
