New Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Mike Daniels made his first comments since officially joining the team and had plenty of interesting things to say.
Chief among them? Daniels says Bengals star Geno Atkins had previously made it clear there was a spot for him on the roster.
Atkins reportedly took Daniels the following, per ESPN’s Ben Baby: “There’s room over here if you want to come.”
Daniels joining Atkins and free-agent addition D.J. Reader up front on the interior of the defensive line seems like a solid core, especially with names like Carlos Dunlap and Sam Hubbard flanking them on the edges.
While Daniels has dealt with injury woes in each of the last two seasons, a rotational role alongside Atkins is something that could keep both of them fresh, especially after Atkins’ production dipped with an uptick in snaps last season.
This isn’t the first time we’ve recently heard about players recruiting other players — Hubbard also recruited safety Vonn Bell.
Mike Daniels said he's been in Cincinnati for about a week. Said Geno Atkins texted him at the end of last season but doesn't remember if Cincinnati reached out. Atkins told Daniels, "There's room over here if you want to come."
