Michigan State Football lands first 2022 commitment in 2022 OG Kristian Phillips

Michigan State landed their first commitment of the 2022 class on Sunday when Kristian “Big Dooley” Phillips committed to the Spartans.

I think that Mel Tucker knew that his new Michigan State Football fanbase needed some positive news this weekend.

After putting the finishing touches on his 2021 recruiting class, it looks like coach Tucker is ready to get started on his 2022 class. His first commit? Offensive guard Kristian “Big Dooley” Phillips.

The Spartans offered Phillips back in August and that offer bore fruit for MSU on Sunday when Phillips announced his commitment on Twitter.

Phillips, who is from Conyers, Georgia, is currently unranked by 247Sports and only has Division I offers from Arizona State and Delaware State, but this looks to be a situation where offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic saw something he liked in the Salem High School lineman and wanted to secure his commitment early. That very likely could be related to his size. Phillips is 6’4″, 310-pounds, fitting the profile of the type of player the Spartans have been recruiting under Tucker.
