Michigan State Basketball had, I think without question, one of their worst losses of the Tom Izzo era on Monday against Minnesota on the road. While many fans were extremely down on the team following a rough performance, Tom Izzo seemed less critical after this loss than after the earlier loss this year against Northwestern.
In his post game comments, Izzo pointed out the extreme shooting disparities between the teams, which sometimes can fall down to odds more than effort. Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press transcribed a few of the better quotes on Twitter, which you can check out below:
Izzo says he felt MSU did “just about everything we wanted to do defensively” against the Gophers. Focusing on positives such as not turning the ball over. “It was our offense.” Said Watts wanted to get off the point. “In general, we had open shots.”

On the energy level, which was poor against Northwestern:
Izzo says “there was no problem the last two games with the energy level” compared to the Northwestern loss.

On Rocket Watts starting at shooting guard and Henry coming off the bench:
Izzo says Watts told him he “hasn’t been as comfortable at the 1.” Said l Henry coming off the bench “won’t last.” Calls it “different experiments you gotta do. Sad you have to do it during the year.”

Izzo not ready to sound the alarm quite yet:
Izzo: “It’s not panicksville.”
