Are you missing the 2019-20 college basketball season already? I don’t blame you, I do too, and that’s why it’s not too early to start thinking about the 2020-21 season. The first betting odds for next season are already rolling out, and Michigan State is tied for the fourth-best odds to win the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at 12/1. They are tied with Kentucky and behind Kansas, Virginia, and Gonzaga.
Odds are according to BetOnline.ag.
Michigan State was the presumptive favorite heading into the 2019-20 season and the consensus No. 1 team in the country. A shaky season led to them temporarily falling out of the top of the rankings but they ended the season strong before its abrupt conclusion, making their way back to No. 9 in the country in the final AP poll of the year.
There are plenty of unknowns for this Michigan State team in 2021, so it’s not exactly a slight that they aren’t the favorites again. Cassius Winston, who has been the heartbeat of this program for years now, will be moving on to the next level. Xavier Tillman and Aaron Henry will both have to decide whether or not they want to try to follow him to the NBA.
Next season, the team could be entirely handed over to young up and coming stars like Rocket Watts, Malik Hall, and Gabe Brown, as well as highly touted incoming recruits like Mady Sissoko and AJ Hoggard. Of course, Joey Hauser will also finally be able to play after being ineligible for the entire season.
