Michigan State at Ohio State: Three things to know

  1. Michigan State is on a two-game skid, most recently suffering a 67-37 blowout loss at Rutgers Thursday as a 4-point underdog. It was the Spartans’ first game since a Jan. 8 home loss (55-54) on a late 3-pointer by Purdue. In between, MSU had three games postponed due to COVID-19 issues within its program. Aaron Henry and Joey Hauser, both junior forwards, are the only two Spartans scoring in double figures at 13.4 and 11.3 points per game, respectively.
  2. Ohio State enters on a two-game winning streak and has won five of its last six. The Buckeyes are coming off a tight 83-79 victory in which F E.J. Liddell scored a team-high 22 points, including the tiebreaking free throws with 57 seconds to go. The sophomore forward, who was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line vs. PSU, leads Ohio State in scoring (15.0 PPG) and rebounds (6.8 RPG).
  3. The Spartans have won the last four vs. the Buckeyes, including an 80-69 home victory March 8, 2020, in the lone head-to-head matchup last season. The victory earned Michigan State, which was a 6.5-point favorite, its third consecutive Big Ten regular-season title, which it shared with Maryland and Wisconsin.

Michigan State at Ohio State: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Ohio State 74, Michigan State 65

Money line (ML)

Ohio State (-300) will snap its four-game skid to Michigan State, but I can’t suggest betting three times the potential return. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

OHIO STATE -6.5 (-115) is the play. This is possibly head coach Tom Izzo’s worst team at Michigan State since he took the helm in 1995 when the Spartans finished 16-16. MSU is reeling and OSU will take advantage.

ATS: Michigan State 3-10 | Ohio State 9-7-1

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 143.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Spartans are struggling to score and their offense ranks last in the conference at 62.9 PPG. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes defense ranks fourth in the conference, yielding 69.5 PPG in Big Ten games.

O/U records: Michigan State 6-7 | Ohio State 10-7
