Michigan star quarterback J.J. McCarthy declares for NFL Draft

While Jim Harbaugh’s future remains in question, the one thing for sure is Michigan will have a new starting quarterback in 2024.

The Michigan Wolverines will officially have a new starting quarterback in 2024. On Sunday, J.J. McCarthy announced that he would be forgoing his final year of eligibility and entering the NFL Draft with a long message to his team, family, and fans.

The 20-year-old out of La Grange Park, Illinois leaves Michigan after three seasons with the program including each of the last two seasons as the program’s starting quarterback. In 28 games as a starter, McCarthy led the Wolverines to a 27-1 record including two wins over Ohio State.

The Wolverines, of course, also were able to win the College Football Playoffs National Championship last Monday over Washington 34-13, completing 10-of-18 passes in the game for 140 years.

For his career, the former five-star prospect completed 67.6% of his passes for 6,226 yards and 49 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He also had 632 career rushing yards and 10 additional touchdowns.

The Wolverines have also recently seen star wide receiver Roman Wilson declare for the NFL Draft as well as defensive lineman Kris Jenkins among others.
