The University of Michigan outlasted the University of Alabama on Monday night in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff in overtime. The Wolverines showed a ton of grit in the win and that was exemplified by running back Blake Corum.
Corum finished with 118 yards of offense on 21 touches and two scores. From an NFL draft standpoint, Corum showed some NFL traits that he should have no problem translating to the next level. The jump cut Corum made on his rushing touchdown is the kind of thing NFL teams covet. Not the biggest back, Corum runs with a ton of strength and leverage, always falling forward and finishing every run.
On the season, Corum has 1,028 yards and a remarkable 24 rushing touchdowns. In terms of draft stock, Corum has a legitimate shot to be the first running back off the board. Texas running back Jonathon Brooks tore his ACL in mid-November which puts the start of the season in question for him and a team could easily opt for Corum instead who is ready to roll.
Most NFL teams are using multiple backs and Corum looks like the kind of smart, versatile athlete who would work well as part of a running back rotation.
