Make it two now.

Not long after all the true freshmen reported to campus, it was something of a surprise that defensive end Aaron Lewis had opted to transfer, having put his name into the NCAA transfer portal before deciding to return to his home state of New Jersey and attending Rutgers. On Wednesday evening, yet another 2020 signee is on his way out of Ann Arbor.

Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy linebacker Osman Savage was the first of four from the school to commit to the Wolverines — OT Micah Mazzccua’s commitment didn’t stick, as he flipped to Baylor — but he won’t ever play a down in Ann Arbor. Per reports, Savage is already in the NCAA transfer portal and will look to play elsewhere.

Given that his former high school teammate, LB Nikhai Hill-Green has been drawing rave reviews this offseason, as have West Bloomfield (MI) three-star Cornell Wheeler and Massachusetts-based four-star Kalel Mullings, there were a lot of linebackers in the mix, even in the 2020 class.

We don’t yet know the reason for Savage’s departure. Stay tuned as the story develops.
