After early signing day back in Dec. 2021, one of the key criticisms for Michigan football was its lack of defensive tackle commitments.

That’s certainly not a problem anymore.

The Wolverines now have a few in the fold, bolstered by a late add come national signing day proper. The maize and blue became more intent to hit the state of Texas with some of the new coaching staff additions, and one prospect that caught their eye was a recent Colorado commit, Garland (TX) Lakeview Centennial three-star DT Ikechukwu Iwunnah. Iwunnah pledged to the Buffaloes late last month, but with some persistence from defensive line coach Shaun Nua and new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Iwunnah flipped to Michigan football.

The commitment was announced by Michigan football as Iwunnah signed with the Wolverines.

Iwunnah is rated the No. 1102 player in the 2021 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite, but eight of his reported 12 offers come from Power Five schools, including the Texas Longhorns in his home state. According to 247Sports, he’s 6-foot-4, 275-pounds at this juncture.
