Michigan basketball’s NCAA Tournament fate revealed

Been biting our nails all day. #GoBlue

Is Michigan basketball in or is it out?

The Wolverines appeared to be squarely in the upcoming NCAA Tournament a week ago when they upset ranked Ohio State, even without Hunter Dickinson. However, what appeared to be a formality soon became something to sweat, as the maize and blue squandered a 17-point second-half lead to lower-seeded Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers went from being an unlikely tourney team to stealing away Michigan’s first four bye status, and many bracketology predictions had the Wolverines sitting at home for the duration of March.

The good news for Michigan is that some of the teams it needed to lose finally lost — such as Indiana and Texas A&M — but the damage had been done. Was the resume good enough for the Wolverines to go dancing?

It turns out, yes, by the slightest of margins.

On Selection Sunday, the NCAA Tournament brackets were revealed, and Michigan basketball ended up making it in as an 11-seed.

Michigan will play 6-seed Colorado State on Thursday in Indianapolis as part of the South region. Ohio State is also in Michigan’s side of the bracket. Arizona is the 1-seed in the Wolverines’ region. Tennessee and Villanova are other teams that the maize and blue could face should they survive and advance.

Gonzaga is the overall No. 1 seed.
