Michigan drubbed Northwestern 33-7 last Saturday. The Wolverines managed 30-plus points for a sixth time in seven games and 200 or more rushing yards (294) for a fifth time this fall. RB Blake Corum rushed for 119 yards in the victory, increasing his season total to 729 yards. UM’s 253.3 rushing yards per game rank fifth in FBS.

The Spartans defeated Indiana 20-15 despite compiling just 241 yards on offense. MSU struggled in taking 12 penalties for 134 yards in the contest. At 68.1 yards per game, Michigan State is the 17th-most penalized team in FBS. RB Kenneth Walker III is a legitimate candidate for “First Half Heisman.” The dynamic junior needs just 3 yards to reach 1,000 rushing yards on the season, and he already has 10 touchdowns (9 rushing, 1 receiving).

Michigan at Michigan State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 26, Michigan State 24

Money line

PASS. The lean is on the home side, and the 3-and-a-hook is a bigger attraction than the outright plus money.

Against the spread

The Wolverines are 0-5 ATS vs. winning teams. The Spartans are 8-2 ATS across their last 10 games against UM.

Michigan’s wins over Nebraska and Rutgers look a bit suspect in the rearview mirror. There are a few “luck-vs.-results” analytics that make the MSU offense a slight play and the UM offense a slight fade. The Wolverines’ TD stops against yardage allowed (and the inverse: scores vs. yardage gained) make them at least suspect enough to warrant 3-and-a-hook on the road.

TAKE THE SPARTANS +3.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Under is 3-1 in the last three series meetings.

A Michigan lead likely gets a grind-the-clock effort late, and this one could be impacted by some late-October Big Ten weather.

On just a sliver of a lean, BACK THE UNDER 50.5 (-108).
