Miami Hurricane Collins Acheampong, a California native, transfers to UCLA

USC lost its chance at an in-state edge rusher.

Miami edge rusher Collins Acheampong entered the transfer portal. Now he’s a UCLA Bruin.

The 6-7, 270-pound freshman sat out the entire 2023 season recovering from an injury and has four years of eligibility remaining.

Acheampong ranked as the No. 154 player according to the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 19 edge rusher and the No. 12 player in the state of California.

The Miami football program flipped Acheampong from Michigan late in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Acheampong was regarded as a versatile defensive lineman with the potential to play inside or outside. Late to playing football, Acheampong moved to America from Ghana in his early teens.

Acheampong attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita (California). He had 51 tackles, 15 TFLs, nine sacks, and one fumble recovery.

USC would have loved to get a young defensive lineman with this kind of size and length. It could have been a real building block for D’Anton Lynn and the defensive staff.

Instead, UCLA — Lynn’s former employer — won the race.
