Miami Dolphins injury report offers no surprises to open Week 11

The Miami Dolphins have released their first injury report of the week and, thankfully for Dolphins fans, it offers little to no surprises in the participants at Wednesday’s practice. A total of nine players were included by the Dolphins for today’s injury update — but only one of those players was a limited participant and only one additional player was a non-participant in Wednesday’s practice.

Here are the Dolphins included on Wednesday’s injury report, along with their specific injury and their status in practice:

  • LB Kyle Van Noy (Hip) – Did not participate
  • OG Solomon Kindley (Foot) – Limited participant
  • RB Matt Breida (Hamstring) – Full participant
  • SAF Kavon Frazier (Shoulder) – Full participant
  • CB Byron Jones (Achilles) – Full participant
  • DE Shaq Lawson (Shoulder) – Full participant
  • CB Jamal Perry (Foot) – Full participant
  • TE Durham Smythe (Knee) – Full participant
  • QB Tua Tagovailoa (Foot) – Full participant

The general rule of thumb? Full participants early in the week don’t often result in any significant loss of time; so while you may not have expected to see Tagovailoa included among those who received injury treatment this week, there doesn’t appear to be any need to worry.

The same can be said for Durham Smythe, Shaq Lawson and Byron Jones — all of which have played through injuries for several weeks now and continue to be strong contributors for the Dolphins. This isn’t the first time Solomon Kindley has shown up on the injury report with a foot injury either — but he did play against the Seattle Seahawks when he was listed as questionable with the issue as a limited participant on Friday of that week.

Meanwhile, the full participation of RB Matt Breida is something of a cause for celebration, as he’s missed the last two weeks with a hamstring issue and figures to be someone who makes an impact on the Dolphins’ offense if he is back to full health (or can at least suit up and play on Sunday against the Broncos). Denver has been especially soft against runs that test the boundary, so that will be an area and development to watch this week.

Finally, LB Kyle Van Noy’s lack of participation is disheartening but also not surprising given that he missed playing time on Sunday against the Chargers due to the hip injury he suffered in the first half. But if you’re looking for a silver lining, Van Noy did return to action in Week 10 after the injury, so we should expect to see him return to practice in a limited participation role before the end of the week. If all goes well, we should still see Van Noy suit up on Sunday to play the Broncos.
