Miami Dolphins defensive back changes name

The Miami Dolphins have had a busy week — they’ve been adding new names to their 2020 offseason roster in an effort to build up the talent levels in South Florida. The obvious hope is that with new waves of free agents and draft selections, the Dolphins can quickly transition from a rebuilding upstart to a fiery young competitor. But the new names aren’t just coming from new faces these days, either.

Miami Dolphins defensive back Jomal Wiltz has officially changed his name — he’s now going by Jamal Perry.

Perry, who is entering his second season with the Miami Dolphins in 2020, played in 14 games last season. He logged 55 total tackles, one interception and six passes defensed while showing some bright flashes as a sub-package defensive back. A former undrafted free agent out of Iowa State, Perry has bounced around from the Philadelphia Eagles (2017) to the New England Patriots (2017-2018) before ultimately landing with the Dolphins and finding the field for the first time for live action.

Quite frankly, we shouldn’t care what he’s calling himself. The man formerly known as Jomal Wiltz has offered some promise of being a good football player in the NFL. Here’s hoping Jamal Perry can help formally see that potential through.
