Media name Oklahoma No. 1 in the Big 12 preseason poll

The Oklahoma Sooners took the top spot yet again in the preseason media poll for the Big 12 Conference. They received 35 of 39 votes.

Recently the Big 12 Conference released its preseason All-Big 12 team that contained nine Oklahoma Sooners. They led the conference in selections. On Thursday, the media released their rankings in the Big 12 with their preseason poll.

To no one’s surprise, the Sooners came in first with the most first-place votes. Iowa State was the only other team to get first-place votes: four of the possible 39. Oklahoma claimed the other 35 votes.

For the sixth straight year and ninth time in the 11 years since the Big 12 moved to 10 teams, Oklahoma is the choice to win the league championship according to a preseason media poll released by the conference Thursday. The Sooners have won each of the last six Big 12 titles.

Lincoln Riley’s Sooners, who have posted a 34-5 record against Big 12 opponents over his four years as head coach and have made three College Football Playoffs and won last year’s Cotton Bowl, garnered 35 of the poll’s 39 first-place votes. – per Oklahoma Sooners media release

Iowa State is looking to take down the Oklahoma Sooners for the Big 12 crown in 2021 after failing last season. To do so, the Cyclones will have to beat the Sooners twice in a span of three weeks. Iowa State travels to Norman on Nov. 20 and the Big 12 Championship game will take place two weeks later.

In the last four championship games, the Sooners have faced different opponents. The last time the same teams faced off in consecutive title games was 2007 and 2008 (Oklahoma and Missouri).
