Maybe Texas and Chris Del Conte should think outside the box

When it comes to making a decision about the future of the Texas Longhorns football team, Chris Del Conte should think outside the box.

That is the $15.4 million question isn’t it? Does replacing Tom Herman with a coach in his first year at Conference USA make sense? Traylor took over a program coming off a 4-8 season in 2019. Their offense ranked 117th and defense ranked 112th in the country. They were picked to finish dead last in CUSA.

This year the Roadrunners are 7-4 and sit in first place in their division. They have the No. 1 offense in their conference and poised to play for the championship. Traylor turned that around in his first season. It is only his first season but what could he do with Texas? We may not find out but it would be interesting just based on how he is as a recruiter and the improvements they saw.

Want to make things spicy? Why not have Traylor bring Garrett Riley over from Southern Methodist University to run the offense. Traylor is a lot more hands-off than Herman and would let his coaches coach. Riley is the younger brother of Oklahoma Sooners head coach, Lincoln.

With some of the bigger names appearing to pass on any idea of coming to Texas,  maybe it is time to think outside the box if they truly want to replace Tom Herman.
