Matt Ryan to make his return to New Orleans on Week 9 CBS broadcast crew

Matt Ryan has a new gig with CBS Sports, but his job this Sunday is familiar: watching the Saints win a game at the Superdome

Have fun out there, Matt Ryan. The longtime Atlanta Falcons quarterback has a new gig with CBS Sports this year, but his job this Sunday is something he’s used to: watching the New Orleans Saints win a game at the Caesars Superdome.

Sure, the Saints are scheduled to kick off with the Chicago Bears in Week 9, not Ryan’s old Dirty Birds squad. But many of the story beats figure to be the same. He’ll be standing on the sidelines as the Saints take some deep shots on offense and wincing in sympathy as Cameron Jordan leads the New Orleans defense.

Ryan went 5-9 against the Saints on their home turf in his long Falcons career, and he teamed up with Jordan for one of the greatest stats in NFL history: the most career sacks of a quarterback by a single defender (23 in 22 games). The pair developed a real rivalry over the years, to a point where Jordan mourned Ryan’s absence in the NFC South after the Atlanta Falcons destroyed their relationship with the franchise’s greatest quarterback and shipped him out of town without any fanfare.

But we shouldn’t make this all about Ryan. He’s going to be joined in the CBS broadcast booth by Andrew Catalon and Tiki Barber, with AJ Ross reporting from the sidelines. Kickoff with the Bears is scheduled for Noon CT on Sunday, Nov. 5.
