Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has accomplished a lot in 12 NFL seasons, but the debate over his status as an elite passer is something you’ll frequently see trending on Twitter.
Ryan is a former league MVP with Hall of Fame numbers and a Super Bowl appearance. In other words, he’s done enough to cement himself as an above-average quarterback, just not enough to be consistently ranked in the top five.
As ESPN slowly releases the player ratings from this year’s edition of Madden NFL 21, it appears Ryan is again just outside of the top five. The top ten overall quarterback ratings were released on Monday afternoon, and Ryan came in at No. 7.
Just two QBs over a 95. Rodgers outside the 90s club.

Ryan’s 87 overall rating puts him ahead of Deshaun Watson (86), Dak Prescott (84) and Carson Wentz (84). As for the six quarterbacks ranked ahead of Ryan, there’s Patrick Mahomes (99), Russell Wilson (97), Lamar Jackson (94), Drew Brees (93), Tom Brady (90) and Aaron Rodgers (89).
