Matt Nagy: Justin Fields, Andy Dalton, Nick Foles all under consideration to start for Bears vs. Lions

Matt Nagy didn’t rule out Nick Foles starting at QB for Bears against the Lions.

Despite the calls for Bears head coach Matt Nagy to be fired following Sunday’s putrid offensive showing in a 26-6 loss to the Browns, Nagy met with the media on Monday morning, where he was met with a barrage of questions.

Among the first was whether Nagy had made a decision about who would be starting at quarterback Sunday against the Lions. And, not so surprising, Nagy said a decision hasn’t been made.

Taking it a step further, Nagy said that Justin Fields, Andy Dalton and Nick Foles are all under consideration to start Sunday against the Lions.

“We are working through that,” Nagy said.

From the sound of it, Foles’ name being thrown in there has to do more with injuries to Dalton, who’s week-to-week with a knee injury, and Fields, who injured his hand against the Browns.

While the x-rays on Fields’ hand were negative, the injury did occur to his throwing hand, so we don’t know how things are going to pan out. But it sounds encouraging for his status on Sunday.

Still, unless both Fields and Dalton can’t go, it’s not likely Foles will get the start.

Not that it’ll matter who’s starting under center for the Bears if Nagy can’t get his offense figured out. Since Nagy is still employed by the organization, the next best option is for Nagy to hand over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, who called plays for five games last season. While Lazor wasn’t the best offensive play caller, the results were better with him making the calls.

As for who will be the lucky QB under center against the Lions, we’ll likely find out Wednesday, which is when the starter usually meets with the media ahead of practice.
