Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle has emerged as perhaps the star of the NBA season restart thus far inside of the bubble at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida.
Thybulle has made a name for himself in just his first season in the NBA as a great, if not potentially even elite, defender. But it is his performance off of the court that has garnered quite a bit of attention over the first week and a half from Disney.
On July 11, Thybulle posted his first video documentary of life inside of the bubble. He gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at his hotel and the process of getting tested for the coronavirus. The first episode has over 630,000 views and the second has more even views than that one.
Thybulle spoke on Friday about the process of creating his videos but believed the historic circumstances of playing at Disney meant the timing would be perfect to launch the series.
I’ve wanted to do things like this before, whether it was in college or while I was going through the draft process but never really had the confidence to do it or it just never really felt right. For me coming into this situation, knowing how many eyes are going to be on it and finally feeling like enough pressure to go through it and get over my discomforts of being in front of the camera or just putting myself out there like that, I feel like this was a good opportunity to go for it.
Thybulle has said previously the videos take quite a bit of time to film and edit but players are faced with several hours of downtime inside of the bubble so the process has kept him occupied. Despite editing being “a beast” as he said, he plans on continuing to post videos but admitted they may not be as frequent once the season begins this month.
The 76ers kick off the season restart Aug. 1 vs. the Indiana Pacers.
