Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle is known for his defensive activity on the floor and for his booming personality off of it. He created a bit of a following for himself on the social media app TikTok during the league suspension as he showed off his creativity.
That creativity level has taken on a new life of its own as he has decided to film what is happening inside the bubble for the Sixers on an everyday basis. So far, his YouTube channel has over 180,000 subscribers after only a week or so and the video blogs have been a hit so far with the fans.
“I’ve wanted to do things like this before,” Thybulle said with a smile. “Whether it was when I was in college or while I was going through the draft process, but I never really had the confidence to do it or it just never felt right.”
Considering this historic situation that he and the team find itself in, the Sixers rookie found the right time to finally get over his discomforts with this specific activity and he moved forward with it.
“For me, coming into this situation knowing how many eyes were going to be on it and finally feeling enough pressure to go through and get over my discomforts whether it’s being in front of the camera or just putting myself out there like that I felt like this was a good opportunity to just see what happens,” he added.
As far as his teammates are concerned, they have given the rookie a hard time, but it appears to be out of love. For example, Tobias Harris snatched a Rubik’s cube out of his hand in a playful manner as he was showing off how he was able to solve it pretty quickly.
“My relationship with all of them has always been just getting a hard time with them,” he said with a laugh. “I think they enjoy the videos and they enjoy the process of me just running around with my camera. I think it’s going to be a fun way for us to look back at this experience and just have these really cool memories.”
The vlog has taken on a life of its own and it will be interesting to see what he does next when the fourth video comes out. So far, there have been mishaps on the water and a cameo by former Sixers guard T.J. McConnell who is now with the Indiana Pacers. [lawrence-related id=34890,34873,34853]
