The Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball team is down bad right now. They should have won on Friday when they took on the Maryland Terrapins, but junior Shyanne Sellers had other plans. Sellers’ huge scoring day ended with a statement win and her staring into a nearby camera to tell the viewers at home that Maryland was peaking at the right time.
The first colossal upset of women’s basketball tournament play goes to the Maryland Terps. After losing to Ohio State twice during the season, Maryland was ready to meet the moment Friday. Ohio State was up early but never recovered, as four Terps went on to score 15 or more points, including junior Shyanne Sellers, who had 25 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Per Alexa Philippou of ESPN, Ohio State won 15 straight games to start the year but has now lost its last two by a combined 31 points. Now, with the Buckeyes’ latest downturn, they have likely lost their No.1 seeding in the NCAA Tournament, and the last memory they have of today’s game is Shyanne Sellers emphatically telling nearby cameras that Maryland was playing well at the right time.
