Marquan McCall reverts back to waivers after failing physical with Patriots

Former Panthers DL Marquan McCall is reverting back to waivers after he reportedly failed his physical with the Patriots due to a preexisting injury.

True to Frank Reich’s forecast, Marquan McCall found himself a new roster just a day after he was waived by the Carolina Panthers. But no one probably saw this coming . . .

McCall, who was awarded off the wire to the New England Patriots on Tuesday, has now reverted back to waivers after a failed physical. The issue, as first reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz this afternoon, is in regards to a knee injury.

The 6-foot-3, 344-pound defensive tackle was not affected by what’s been referred to as a “preexisting” knee injury during his time in Carolina. McCall joined the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Kentucky in 2022.

In his lone campaign with the organization, McCall appeared in 16 of 17 outings as a rookie. He recorded 15 tackles and a quarterback hit.

Reich said the following of McCall’s release from Monday:

“Honestly, we’re doin’ it now ’cause we think he’s gonna be on a roster somewhere. Just comes down to two things. It comes down to a fit for us and what we’re tryin’ to do, and then we’ve had a couple guys at that position who have really looked good.”
