The Boston Celtics’ home opener against the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden on this past Tuesday was a loud Celtics victory and an exciting way to tip off the ’22-23 campaign. It also featured a bit of extracurriculars between the Celtics and Sixers players, a familiar story for fans of the rivalry.
After veteran point guard Marcus Smart and Philadelphia center Joel Embiid exchanged some pointed words after getting tangled up on a play underneath the basket. Boston’s Jaylen Brown quickly came to Smart’s defense, leading to an even more heated moment, though the action was broken up before anything more came of it.
Smart was asked about the moment after the end of a recent Celtics practice. The Flower Mound native said he appreciates the loyalty he and his teammates share. “The things that we’ve been through,” Smart explained via CLNS. “For Jaylen to do that, it shows that we’re in this together no matter what.”
