After not hearing his name called in the 2023 NBA Draft on Thursday, Texas’ leading scorer Marcus Carr signed an undrafted free agent deal that will give him a shot to make it to the NBA.
Carr, who averaged 16 points per game this past season, inked a summer league deal with the Phoenix Suns. The former Longhorn led the team in assists with 4.1 per game and 1.6 steals per game.

While Summer League opportunities don’t always lead to an NBA roster spot, in the case of Carr it very well could. Due to the Suns recent addition of Bradley Beal, they only have a handful of players on the roster currently and they also have limited cap space ahead of free agency. This could very well mean that a strong showing from Carr could lead to a further opportunity with the organization.
Carr was a sixth-year senior and is 24 years old. He spent a year at Pitt, sat out a transfer year before the pandemic, then played three years at Minnesota before finishing his collegiate career at Texas.
