Marching back: Diggs’ second game-winning homer of season lifts Hogs over Army

Arkansas rallied to beat Army on Military Appreciation Day from Baum-Walker Stadium.

Opposing teams may want to start pitching around Arkansas third baseman/designated hitter Kendall Diggs in the late innings.

The Diamond Hogs’ sophomore belted a one-out, three-run home run in the eighth inning Tuesday against Army, lifting the Razorbacks to a 7-5 win in the one-off series.

It was his second game-winning homer this year after he hit a walk-off last month for the Diamond Hogs. As for Tuesday’s, it was his fourth of the year, the second highest total on the team behind Jared Wegner’s six.

Arkansas trailed by a run into the bottom of the eighth after Army broke a 4-all tie in the seventh on a fielder’s choice. Brady Slavens was hit by a pitch, Jace Bohrofen singled him to second and Diggs took the first pitch he saw in his at-bat over the centerfield fence at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Wegner also had a three-run homer. His shot kicked off Arkansas’ four-run sixth inning after the Black Knights had scored two in the first and one each in the fourth and fifth to open the lead.

Parker Coil gave up three of those four Army runs in his first starter for the Diamond Hogs. He worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and a walk with two wild pitches and two strikeouts.

Arkansas is back in action Friday through Sunday when it hosts Louisiana Tech.
