The Maine Black Bears and the 5th-ranked Duke Blue Devils meet at Cameron Indoor Stadium Monday in the regular season opener for both teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ACC Network) Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Maine vs. Duke odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Black Bears are predicted to finish in the middle of the pack in the America East Conference (AEC). Maine’s top players are the 2 starters in the backcourt, Jaden Clayton and Kellen Tynes. Maine went 15-17 in the regular season in 2023-24, while going 18-12 against the spread (ATS), with the Under going 18-10-2.

There is a lot of anticipation over Duke’s season, as the Cooper Flagg era begins. Ironically, he is a native of the state of Maine. In fact, Flagg grew up just 36 miles from the campus of the University of Maine.

The Blue Devils are considered the favorites in the ACC, with holdovers Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor, as well as incoming prospects Flagg, Isaiah Evans, Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach.

This is just the 2nd-ever meeting between these teams on the hardwood. Duke pounded Maine 94-55 at Cameron on Dec. 3, 2016.

Maine at Duke picks and predictions

Prediction

Duke 87, Maine 56

Moneyline

It shouldn’t need to be stated, but you can’t play Duke (-50000), even as part of a multi-leg parlay. Playing this heavy of a favorite means a 20-cent profit for every $100 risked. To make any kind of money whatsoever, you’d need to risk tons of money. It’s silly, but we’ll mention it anyway, but a wager of $10,000 would net a profit of $20.

AVOID.

Against the spread

DUKE -29.5 (-110) has a tremendous mix of talent, and this is easily coach Jon Scheyer’s best recruiting class since taking the reins from Coach K. Knueppel led the team with 18.0 points per game (PPG) in 2 exhibition games, while hitting 52.9% (9-of-17) from behind the 3-point line.

Duke has won 42 consecutive openers since 1981. This is the 17th consecutive season the Blue Devils are ranked in the preseason Top 10.

Over/Under

OVER 134.5 (-115) is a strong play in the opener, and easily the best on the board.

Duke dropped 92 points in a 92-54 win over Dartmouth in last season’s opener, and you can expect a similar offensive show from the Blue Devils. Maine won’t have to do much heavy lifting to get this one over the finish line.
