Magic rookie Chuma Okeke a late scratch on Sunday due to hip injury

Okeke is averaging 13.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals in eight games since entering the starting lineup on March 26.

Orlando Magic rookie Chuma Okeke on Sunday was a late scratch from the lineup versus the Milwaukee Bucks due to a sore right hip, according to the team.

Okeke entered the contest initially listed as questionable to play but was eventually ruled out about one hour before tipoff. He apparently suffered the injury on Friday in a loss to the Indiana Pacers and the team is hopeful it is not too serious.

“We are hoping it’s just minor and that he got hit and it’s just really sore,” Magic head coach Steve Clifford said. “He tried to do stuff this morning. We are hoping it will be one night, a couple of nights and nothing that will be lasting.”

Following several moves at the trade deadline, Okeke has been featured more predominantly for the Magic. He has become the starting power forward with Aaron Gordon now with the Denver Nuggets and has performed well in that role.

Since entering the starting lineup following the trade deadline, Okeke is averaging 13.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals in eight games with the Magic.
