Mack Wilson suffers hyperextended knee, may require season-ending surgery

Former Alabama LB Mack Wilson suffered a hyperextended knee during Browns training camp, the injury may require season-ending surgery.

Former Alabama linebacker Mack Wilson shocked many in his rookie season with the Cleveland Browns. After being selected in round No. 5 of the 2019 NFL draft, he was expected to fight for a spot on the roster, but instead maintained a regular role in the Browns defense.

Wilson entered 2020 training camp with his eyes set on a leadership role within the defense, hoping to top his impressive rookie season.

With two days completed at training camp in pads, Wilson’s name has reached headlines for reasons he may not have wanted.

On Monday, Wilson tackled running back Nick Chubb by the horse collar in practice, which left Chubb with a concussion. As a consequence, Wilson was demoted to second team for Tuesday’s practice.

The linebacker took to Twitter afterwards to explain that he practices with a lot of passion and was never his intention to injure a teammate.

While practicing with the second team, Wilson hyperextended his left knee, reports Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. The injury left Wilson on the ground and required a cart to take him off the field.

Cabot cited a source that claims Wilson’s injury may need surgery the could keep him out for the entire 2020 season.

There’s no official word on Wilson’s current status, or if he will require surgery that could keep him sidelined throughout his sophomore season. Roll Tide Wire will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
