Mack Brown reveals injury update for quarterback Drake Maye

UNC football head coach Mack Brown provided some injury updates including quarterback Drake Maye.

North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye delivered some big drives when the Tar Heels needed him the most on Saturday night. And he’s continued to show up in big moments when UNC has needed him the most.

But on Monday, head coach Mack Brown revealed some injury news regarding Maye and his play over the past four weeks.

Per Brown, Maye suffered an ankle injury in the win over Pitt at the end of September and it has bothered the quarterback since. That includes in the loss to Virginia, where Maye could ‘barley walk’ leading into that game during practices for the Tar Heels.

Now, that’s not an excuse for why the Tar Heels suffered a stunning upset to the Cavaliers. And honestly, it makes it worse knowing that Maye was hurt throughout the week and during the game because UNC simply did not give the ball to running backs Omarion Hampton and British Brooks during that game.

With Maye being hurt, it should have been clear that UNC needed to lean on the run game more.

Maye has been playing through the injury for the last four games, showing just how tough he is. With two games left in the regular season, he’s going to need to deliver some more epic performances to help get the Tar Heels to 10 wins.
