The future is still plenty bright for Trevor Lawrence, but Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots proves just how much it helps to have a quality supporting cast for a young quarterback.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Lawrence had another forgettable performance in a 50-10 blowout loss Sunday, throwing three interceptions and just one touchdown pass.
Lawrence managed just 193 yards through the air against Bill Belichick’s defense, continuing a rocky rookie season for the former Clemson star.
On the other side of the field, Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones was surgical in his performance. This year’s No. 15 overall pick, Jones completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts for 227 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
There’s still plenty of football ahead for both of these young passers, but Sunday’s game made it clear that going No. 1 overall has its disadvantages.
