When the New England Patriots spent the No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft on Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, it’s a safe bet that they weren’t expecting him to light the world on fire with his running ability.
That didn’t stop the rookie from leading the Pats in rushing Sunday, as New England fell to the New Orleans Saints 28-13 at home.
Sure, that had more to do with the fact that the running backs didn’t move the needle much for the Patriots. The combination of Damien Harris, James White, JJ Taylor and Brandon Bolden managed just 21 yards on 11 carries between the four of them. Jones tied with Harris for the team lead with six carries, tallying 28 yards.
Even so, it’s encouraging for Pats fans to know that when Jones needs to take off and make something happen on the ground, he can get the job done.
