Mac Jones had a viral moment following the New England Patriots’ 17-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
In a video clip, the rookie is caught winking in the direction of former Patriots Elandon Roberts and Jason McCourty before snapping the ball. While speaking with reporters on Wednesday in a press conference, he provided an intriguing story behind the moment.
“That was just kind of fun and games,” Jones said, transcribed by WEEI. “It was just in the middle of the play. They actually like called out our play. So I was like, ‘Ah, nice catch.’ But anyways it was just fun and games.”
Jones said he didn’t change the play call, while saying the Dolphins ended up stopping a run for no gain.
‘No, I mean I just stuck to what I’m supposed to do,” Jones said with a chuckle. “Sometimes they don’t know the answers either.”
