Former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones has come a long way since he joined the Crimson Tide football program back in 2017. The long-time backup ended up being a national champion, a record holder and a Heisman finalist. Now, he’s getting ready to perform at the next level.
ESPN New England Patriots reporter Mike Reiss tweeted out today that Jones, the team’s first-round draft pick, would be playing in tonight’s preseason matchup against the Washington Football Team.
Jones will share time with former NFL MVP and presumed Patriots starting quarterback Cam Newton. However, there is speculation that Newton’s job could come into question sooner than most think if the rookie, Jones, continues to succeed on the practice field.
Reiss also noted something of importance to fans of Jones, they should expect to see him in a jersey number other than the No. 50 he’s been rocking during training camp and preseason practices.
Lots to look forward to tonight: Cam/Mac expected to play…Mac retires No. 50 in place of new number (stay tuned)…revamped front-7 with free-agent import Matt Judon fired up for debut ("every time I step on the field it's a gift")…can rookie K Quinn Nordin maintain momentum?
