LSU’s Damone Clark named second-team All-American

Some All-American honors heading the way of Damone Clark.

Damone Clark is enjoying one of the best seasons in recent memory for the LSU Tigers.

Of Clark’s 249 career tackles, 135 have been tallied this year. He also has 15 TFLs and 5.5 sacks. Two of those came on back-to-back plays where he sealed the final victory of the season against Texas A&M. That sent head coach Ed Orgeron out a winner in his final game with the Tigers. It also gave LSU a 6-6 record and made them bowl eligible avoiding the first losing season since 1999.

Clark added three passes defended, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and an interception. His efforts as the best all-around defender for the LSU defense earned him second-team All-American honors from the Sporting News. He was joined on the second team by Wisconsin’s Leo Chanal and Oklahoma State’s Malcolm Rodriguez.

The first team linebackers were no surprise with Alabama’s Will Anderson, Georgia’s Nakobe Dean, and Utah’s Devin Lloyd. Clark has been the only LSU member to be named to any of the All-American teams this year. He currently ranks second in the country in tackles.

Clark is set to head to Mobile, Alabama, after the season to take part in the Reese’s Senior Bowl as he prepares to make the jump to the NFL.
