Last month, Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley became the first high-profile player to announce he was opting out of the 2020 season due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
LSU All-American Ja’Marr Chase, through his father, originally indicated he would be playing this fall.
That all changed on Sunday when it was reported that Chase would indeed opt out of the upcoming season and begin preparations for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Just like that, LSU lost its best offensive player and the top wide receiver in the country.

Chase took to his Twitter account on Monday to let fans know he would have preferred if they heard the news from him first.

Later on Monday evening, Chase released a statement reflecting on his time in Baton Rouge and the importance of wearing the LSU jersey, specifically No. 7.

Chase is expected to be one of the top players selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.
