While the Tigers have been locked at No. 7 in the AP Top 25 since their season-opening loss to Colorado, the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll has been much kinder.
Coach Kim Mulkey’s LSU women’s basketball team rose as high as No. 4 after a top-10 win over Virginia Tech, but despite winning its only game of the week by 30 points against Louisiana on Sunday, it dropped a couple of spots in this week’s poll.
The Tigers fell to No. 6 as they were leapfrogged by NC State and USC, both of which are still perfect on the season. LSU sits at 9-1 on the year but has won nine games in a row since that season-opening loss.
After beginning the season at No. 1, the defending national champions have some work to do to get back there. South Carolina, which was unanimously voted the top-ranked team this week, is on the schedule later in the year for LSU.
It will now look to extend its win streak to double digits as it hosts a struggling McNeese team at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Tuesday night.
