LSU to face Tennessee in College World Series opener

It will be an all-SEC clash to kick things off in Omaha.

After a delay pushed Game 3 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional late into the night on Monday, LSU finally learned who it will face in its first game at the College World Series in Omaha.

Tennessee emerged victorious over host Southern Mississippi, setting up an all-SEC clash between the Tigers and the Volunteers. That game will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.

The Vols dropped Game 1 against the Golden Eagles, which began on Saturday but had to continue on Sunday due to a weather-related postponement. Tennessee trailed 4-0 early in Game 2 but ultimately won 8-4.

Monday night’s decisive Game 3 was all Volunteers as they shut out USM in what became the final game of coach Scott Berry’s career.

LSU and Tennessee played a two-game series in Baton Rouge earlier this season with the Tigers taking that matchup two games to one.
